Is anger what we feel, or what we do?
Is there a different or better way to frame this question in your opinion? |

Anger seems to me a variant of a fear response. The mind goes to DEFCON "with us or against us". One remains a little more articulate than during a full blown fight or flight response, but not by much.
Angst on the other hand is the crystallization of not only anger but a bird's eye view of the world, where you stand, and where you want to go. Within angst, anger takes its proper place as a trigger for a memory of an event not a motivating principle. Reality should motivate but anger should only help keep focus. Anger is a placeholder. Like nitrous oxide in the engine. It's not really good for the car in the long run and neither is anger.
The fact that anger can motivate people is not a positive feature of anger but a lacking in motivational skills.
Angst is healthy because it is holistic. Angst gives you a wide angle lens. Anger obsesses. |
